"The Embryo" was the first composition in oil on canvas. It was done in the class of the artist's second inspirational art teacher, Mr. Sullivan.
     He encouraged painting on canvas with oil and provided gallon cans of oil paint for the students to fill their jars. He helped to organize exhibitions for the paintings and exposed students to the work of well known artists.
