This painting was another step in the exploration of how color produces optical vibration. The inspiration came from the cover art of a Steve Miller album. An earthquake caused this canvas to fall and a stretcher bar was broken. The canvas was removed from the stretcher bars in an aborted attempt to re-stretch the painting. The project was aborted when a new idea crowded out the old. The canvas was glued to the concrete slab floor just inside the front door of the house. A coat of polyurethane was applied over the painting. There was much debate about the longevity of the installation given the high traffic position in which it was placed. Amazingly the painting suffered almost no wear, the colors staying brilliant for years. Many a guest would hesitate before entering, wondering if they should step on the painting. Eventually the entry floor was finished and the painting is now entombed under a tile floor.
